Natan Sharansky

Natan Sharansky is a man who deserves more than a little praise in our world. Sadly, he gets none.

We all know of the so-called Bush Doctrine, where-in the government of a nation deals with other nations based on how free the other nation is. In this model, the Free Society uses Economic Pressure to force a Fear Society into becoming a Free one.

Sadly, so-called "Realists" in Foreign Policy have declared that this is not reasonable, and that it will never work. Apparently they slept through the Cold War.

The Realists claim that the Soviet Union was destined to collapse when it did, to which I must reply with a popular Russian phrase among fellow fans of the movie Serenity. Eta Kooram Nah Smech, or, in English, that is for Chickens to laugh at.

If an appeaser like Jimmy Carter had come to power instead of Reagan, then Russia would still be under Soviet Rule. Why? Because the Soviet Union required two things of the United States for the leadership to hold onto their power. The first was a nation on which they could gain trade and technology, and the second is a nation that they can call their enemy while secretly relying upon them. When Reagan began to implement the SDI, or Star Wars, program, he removed both of those things from the Soviets, leading to the beginning of the end, and the shoe of Gorbachev being lodged firmly within his own mouth, and not the American Collective
pee-goo.

The only way we can ever have peace on this planet is if the entire world is either A. only democracies and republics, or B. ruled by Jesus Christ. And, since the second seems to be a long time coming, we should strongly push the concept of basing our foreign policy on another nation's domestic policy.

after all, a nation that does not respect the rights of it's citizens will NOT respect the rights of its neighbors.
